SCUT starts Phase-I construction for Guangzhou International Campus

2018-09-01

SCUT’s Guangzhou International Campus has now entered Phase-I of its construction plan, after a ceremony of activating the project was celebrated on August 16, with the campus’s first pile being installed on August 24.

It has been only 17 months since the university signed the agreement of building the Guangzhou International Campus with the Ministry of Education and the governments of Guangdong province and Guangzhou, a progress that demonstrated the “Guangzhou speed and efficiency” to the world.

This new campus will take focus on cutting-edge technologies and address major demands of the country, with 10 sub-schools in emerging engineering disciplines and several research institutes in its blueprint.

These emerging disciplines will include information technology, artificial intelligence, high-end equipment manufacturing, green and low-carbon technology, biomedicine, digital economy, new materials, and maritime economy.

As being planned in Phase-I, three of the new schools, including the International School of Advanced Materials, the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering, and the School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, as well as a number of research institutes are going in advance.

In the meantime, the campus has started to recruit graduate students from 2018, and is expected to welcome the first enrollment of fresh undergraduates in September 2019.
