On November 17, the Guangzhou International Campus(GZIC) of SCUT hosted its second International Cultural Festival. Tang Hongwu, President of SCUT, and Abdul Rasheed, Special Representative from the Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, attended the opening ceremony.
This year’s festival, themed 'Hand in hand for a shared future,' combined deliciousness and fun, featuring 45 booths that showcased the cultures and cuisines of countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), along with performances by local and international students.
Here, 'traveling the world' is not a dream anymore. Students from over 40 countries displayed their cultural characteristics and local delicacies at their booths, accompanied by song and dance performances. Each student and faculty member received a special 'passport' to embark on this unique journey:
Traditional snacks from booths representing Russia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia attracted lots of attention.
A Vietnamese float and activities including riddle guessing, traditional cuju (kickball), and a calligraphy set up by SCUT students drew many culture enthusiasts.
A fashion show, featuring traditional costumes from over 20 countries, showcased the rich diversity of global clothing cultures and exotic styles.
Meanwhile, Chinese lion dance and martial arts performances displayed the dynamic and serene aspects of traditional Chinese culture.
Hosting the International Cultural Festival is an important initiative by SCUT to promote cultural development at the GZIC, enhancing friendship between local and international students, and fostering an inclusive, open, and diverse international campus culture.
Currently, the university has over 2,500 international students from more than 110 countries and regions across six continents in its three campuses. This year's cultural festival attracted nearly 2,000 guests, faculty, and students, enhancing mutual understanding and respect among young people from different countries and cultures, and laying a solid cultural and emotional foundation for building a community with a shared future for mankind.
