Hello, Guangzhou – SCUT hosts exchange event for overseas young scholars

On April 1, SCUT, partnering with the Outstanding Young Scholars Society (UK), hosted an academic exchange event for overseas young scholars at the Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC).

Li Weiqing, Vice President of SCUT, and Gu Sai, a fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering and founder of the Outstanding Young Scholars Society (UK) addressed the opening ceremony. Representatives from local government agencies and enterprises also attended the event.

On the day of the event, SCUT launched the inauguration ceremony for the Outstanding Youth Scholars Innovation Center.It will serve as a vital bridge connecting overseas young scholars with local development needs, providing comprehensive support and services for young Chinese scholars who study or work abroad.

The center, facilitating academic exchanges, technology transformation, and business start-ups for academic personnel, will dedicate itself to attracting exceptional young scholars from the globe to innovate and start businesses in Guangzhou.

Nearly 30 scholars from 15 prestigious universities, including the University of Oxford University, the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London, King's College London, University of Hamburg, University College Dublin, came together to share their latest efforts in cutting-edge areas.

The roadshows of their research development demonstrated a variety of applications, such asintelligent diagnostic chips, mussel adhesion proteins, and integrated solar energy storage systems. The event also invited a number of investment and financing companies, which carried out on-site matchmaking with academics.

Guests of the event also had tours to laboratories of the GZIC, and to GAC Aion, a battery electric vehicle brand headquartered in Guangzhou. At GZIC, they were deeply impressed by the advanced scientific research and experimental equipment installed in the campus, as well as the paradigm and practices of teaching and learning with global vision.

A scholar from the University of Warwick shared his excitement:

"This platform allows us to attract investment through roadshows, and provides a channel to connect with international scholars."

Another scholar from Cambridge University learned details of academic environment and policies of the School of Future Technology,

"The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful. They share direct information with us, and connect resources for us," he said.

The Guangzhou International Campus of 麻豆传媒 China University of Technology aims to gather top global intellectual resources with a global vision. Newly recruited faculty members all have experiences of study, research, or teaching at some of the world’s universities or giant international corporations, with the majority of them coming from Harvard University, MIT, the University of Oxford, the University of Tokyo, Nanyang Technological University, Apple, and Intel.

By promoting both scholarship and industrial applications, the faculty aims to build bridges connecting theoretical innovation with industrial practices for students.
