Title: Cyber-Physical Systems and Digital Twins for Smart Manufacturing

Speaker: Prof. Xun Xu

Time: April 26, 15:00

Venue: Room D1-b110, Guangzhou International Campus

[Abstract]

Industry 4.0 is the German vision for the future of manufacturing, one in which smart factories use information and communications technologies to digitize their systems and processes and reap benefits in the form of improved quality, lower costs, and increased efficiency and sustainability. The technological fundamentals of Industry 4.0 are unpinned by that of the Internet of Things and exist in various forms of Cyber-Physical Systems, where “systems” can be products and machines. A key element in a Cyber-physical System (CPS) is a Cyber Twin or otherwise commonly known as a Digital Twin. This talk gives an overview of the background, concept, and major technologies related to Industry 4.0, CPS, and digital twins for industrial solutions. The focus is on digital twins and some case studies of digital twins. The talk will cover smart factories with examples and an Industry 4.0 Learning Factory, otherwise known as the Laboratory for Industry 4.0 Smart Manufacturing Systems (LISMS) at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
